Stolen Camera

I think it is exciting when I download the pictures off the camera and there are some unexpected ones even though it means someone has been touching the camera without permission.

Noah Meets Family

August 9th Noah met his great grandparents for the first time. It is an honor that he is able to know his great grandparents and that he has such wonderful great grandparents. Not many kids are as lucky as mine in this regard.

The same day Noah got to meet his cousin Ezri who is only 4 days older than he is.

Noah

Noah has a weepy belly button like Sophie did when she was a baby. I made an appointment with the Dr. and she confirmed it was what appeared to be the same thing and sent us to the pediatric surgeon.

I went in all confident that I knew all about this because I had done it before. Little did I know... The Dr. began to confirm that it was what Sophie had and asked if the Dr. had tried to cauterize the belly button with silver nitrate which is usually the first step. They had not so he went to get a Q-tip to do so but first probed the belly button. That's when the Q-tip went places it wasn't supposed to go.

The surgeon then turned to me and said this is something a little more involved than your daughter. He then explained that it appeared that Noah's umbilical remnant was attached to his intestine.

This requires surgery then a several day stay at the hospital where he cannot eat until the detached intestine heals.

Aahhhhhhh how can a newborn not nurse for several days???? It was a very brief appointment and honestly they didn't give me a lot of details. I have a lot of unanswered questions.

Bottom line is that Noah goes in for surgery Tuesday the 31st. I'll keep people posted as I know more.

For your viewing pleasure...my attempts at capturing Noah's, "I am trying to poop face."

Things To do With Basil Starts

Normal people dry basil, or make it into pesto, but no, not us. We like to be original and do things like...

Excavate 6/10/10 and...

Nap 5/27/10

I mean why would we do something as conventional as cook with it?

Taco Salad

July 10th I made taco salad for dinner. I had read that making tortilla bowls was pretty easy so I thought I would give it a try. It is easy and so much fun and SO yummy. It does require a lot of oil, but you can save it for future frying ventures.

The whole lot of tortillas.

A close up.

Sophie's salad topped with Ken's Steak House Lite Country French with Vermont Honey (It must be stated this way.)

My salad topped with salsa and cottage cheese (a bit healthier than sour cream.)

FYI you heat the oil, drop the tortilla in ( I used store bought as I was hugely pregnant. I would like to try it with homemade tortilla at some point.) Quickly place an empty can with both ends cut out in the center of the tortilla to create the bowl shape and fry until golden brown!

Heat Wave

Those here in Vermont will remember the awful week in July when it was 90 degrees and about 90% humidity...it was so gross.

I was a week and a half from having Noah, though I didn't know it at the time. I was so hot and uncomfortable that we just shut the house up and ran the A/C continually. In the morning we would shut our bedroom door and by nighttime it would be like an ice box in there. It was such a relief after a long, hot, sticky day.

We felt a little guilty making the kids sleep out in that soup, but knew that if we had them go to sleep in our room the excitement of it would keep them awake. So each night when we went to bed we would transfer the kids into our room and we would all sleep peacefully and coolly.

Sleep in heavenly peace...

Day Out

June 24th we had a family day out. It started with a trip to the midwife then we headed to the museum at the National Guard. It was free and pretty fun if you like military history like Aaron does.

They gave the kids special permission to get on a few of the items.

After the museum we headed to the movie theater for the first time as a family. We saw Toy Story 3 in 3-D

It was an almost once in a life time experience. If only movie tickets were still 25 cents.

The Gun

Some of you may know that Aaron bought a gun. It is an old, but beautiful (for a gun I guess) Remington .22. If you want to know more about it you will have to ask Aaron, I know nothing about guns.

I wasn't necessarily happy about the purchase. Only because it was unplanned, not because I am anti gun. Aaron felt that of I shot it I would feel better about it. I will admit it did help.

Barefoot, pregnant and shootin' off the back porch...

Oh what a man!

I have been a very patient wife when it comes to this unplanned purchase. I did not expect however that I would have to be a patient wife/mother. Each child has had their turn.

Sophie

Ben

Jacob...did I mention I have been very patient?

Ben is actually quite careful and focused with the gun. And he his a pretty good shot! Again I feel it is important to mention what a patient woman I am.

Birthdays

June is birthday month in our house!

Ben requested an army cake. Thanks to the internet here is what I came up with.

Sophie blowing out the candles on her oreo ice cream cake. Look, I am still pregnant!

I always take a picture of the cakes I make, but this day there were lots of people to take the pictures so I actually get to appear with one of my cakes!

Happy Birthday Sophie and Ben!

Back Track

Ok I really have to focus on all my old post or they will never get done.

June 13th Sophie turned 8 and was baptized. It is a special day for us in our church. Not a new beginning, but a beginning.

My mom helped me make a dress. I am very pleased with the outcome. After not sewing clothes for, oh, about...14 years because of awful failures, it is nice to have a success even if it is an imperfect one.

Sophie got a new set of scriptures for her birthday.

Sophie and Daddy ready for the baptism.

The family that was able to attend.

Our little family pre Noah!

All Things Noah

I have tons of other stuff to blog about but not enough time to do it so for now here is a Noah post.

July 20th 3 days old

July 21st 4 days old. We discovered that the Nerf darts fit perfectly on the ends of his fingers.

July 23rd 6 days old His hair curls when it is wet. Does this mean he will have curl hair?

July 24th 1 week old One of the funniest baby faces I have ever seen.

Same day looking peaceful.

Just another view

Up close

Same day... meeting Grammie and Grampa for the first time.

Same day, cozy with mommy

July 31st 2 weeks old!
