Sophie and Books

In an effort to give each of the kids equal screen time on the blog, I tried to get a picture of Sophie.  I mentioned before that this is difficult since she reads books a lot.  Here is what I was able to come up with.

She knows I am there but refuses to look up.

Now she outright denies me access.

I think she thinks if she ignores me I will go away.

I finally asks some questions about the book and she is more than willing to share, but it still isn't the face time I want.

Of course when the boys see her sharing, they want to see too.

Noah's Surgery

The second day of school Noah had surgery.  We thought that his umbilical remnant was attached to his intestine.  I was so stressed about the surgery because in order for the intestine to heal I couldn't feed him for a couple of days.


My mind was boggled as to how a 2 month old infant could go without nursing for 2 days.  I was also worried because I have never had success with pumping.  I was worried that I would lose my milk supply and nursing would be over.

I prayed and prayed that it would not be the intestine, but his bladder instead because that is a much faster easier recovery.  Aaron also gave him a beautiful priesthood blessing.


So the morning of the surgery I was allowed to nurse Noah at 6:15.  Then we headed to the hospital so he slept on the 1 hour 25 minute ride.  We checked in at 8:15 and he slept right on through.  We went to pre-op and he slept until they woke him up to weigh and measure him.  I thought things would fall apart at this point.


My mom was there so I had her hold him thinking if I held him he would want to nurse.  But he started to fuss so I took him and he just peacefully laid in my arms and even dozed a bit.


They finally took him and my mom and I went to have lunch.  Our hospital has won awards for their food.  It is all healthy.  And all the silverware is biodegradable.  I got a whole wheat pesto chicken ricotta calzone.  It was quite tasty and I plan on recreating it here at home.  It was a lot of fun to sit and chat with my mother like a friend.

When we checked in the hospital gave us a special number and with it you can check on the status of the patient.  I knew almost at the very moment when Noah was out of surgery and in post-op.  It was pretty cool and it gave me something to do while I waited.


The surgeon came and spoke to us and you cannot believe the huge sigh of relief I felt when he told us it was his bladder not the intestine.  It was euphoric.  I can still feel some of that high as I remember the moment.

I went into post-op, nursed him immediately and then we spent the night at the hospital.  I guess sometimes infants forget to breath after anesthesia plus they had to make sure urine was flowing properly.

Noah in his hospital bed.  To the side of his right knee is the catheter tube, on his left leg is his I.V. the bandaging is just to keep it stable.  On his right big toe is the oxygen sensor.

I cannot help but think that the peace that I felt and how peaceful Noah was through it all was an answer to our prayers.

First Day of School

I guess it is about time I got the first day of school up here since we are well past the 30th of August.

Aaron is not a fan of these pictures so he always does something silly.  Unfortunately for him it just means that for all time he will be remembered as a buffoon.  

 Ben is now a first grader! His glasses were lost so he just has the patch.  This is evidence of how much his eye has improved.

This means he has Sophie's teacher Mrs. Williams

 Sophie is a third grader!! Aack!  I can't believe I have a third grader.

The third grade teacher is Mrs. Massucci.  The other teacher is Mr. Stein.  He was just helping out for a couple of weeks.

Farm Life

We were in a parade for our local celebration, Old Home Day. Since we were in it I have no pictures of us in it, but after the parade was over to boys got to climb on a HUGE combine that was in the parade.

And someone suggested that I take a photo of the view of our garden from the back door. It is a very satisfying view.

It was an excellent garden year. Some of that was Aaron's hard work and diligence, and a lot of it I can thank no one else but the Lord.

It does make a little scared for what kind of winter we are going to have, because lets face it, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away."

Sophie's Turn

One of the hardest things about a blog is making sure kids get equal coverage which is hard when one is in school and when at home is almost constantly reading a book.

I snapped this one of Sophie back in June. She got a sleeping mask for her birthday. It has actually been handy for the nights that we have to work in the dining room which is right off her bedroom.

Noah Unload

I have a bunch of Noah pictures so I am just going to unload them all at once so I don't have a backlog.

8/17/10 Jacob very carefully set Noah up in the swing. He even generously shared his special pillow and softy.

He also took time to align his softy so that it covered each foot so that Noah wouldn't be cold.

There that is how Noah looked in the month of August. Now I need to get going on September!
